A MacBook that won’t charge could have a faulty charger or cable, a damaged port, a worn battery or a fault in the charging circuit on the logic board. We test each one so you only pay for what’s actually wrong.
Try these first
- Try a different Apple charger and cable if you can, and a different wall socket.
- Check the port for fluff or debris, and look for damage to the end of the cable.
- On USB-C MacBooks, try each port: they’re often on separate circuits.
- Leave it connected for 15 minutes. A completely flat battery can take a while to show any sign of life.
What usually causes it
- The charger or cable – the cheapest fix, and one we rule out first with known-good Apple chargers.
- A damaged port or MagSafe board – on many models the port is a separate part that can be replaced on its own.
- The battery – a worn or failed battery can stop charging altogether.
- The logic board – charging chips and power circuits fail after liquid, a drop or a poor-quality charger. We repair these at component level.

Price
If the fault is a port, MagSafe board or battery, we quote for that part. If it’s on the logic board, the repair is £450 + VAT on 2018 and later models, and from £165 + VAT on earlier models (£450 + VAT if it was caused by liquid or lightning). The initial assessment and advice are free, as long as we don't need to open your Mac. If a technician needs to open it and spend time diagnosing the fault, or you need a report for an insurance claim, it is booked in as a diagnostic at £45 + VAT (£54). All prices are subject to inspection, and nothing is done without your approval.
Questions we’re often asked
Is it safe to use a cheap charger?
We see a lot of charging faults caused by poor-quality chargers and cables. An Apple charger, or a reputable one of the correct wattage, protects the charging circuit.
Will I lose my files?
No. We repair the existing board, so your data stays where it is.
Do I pay if you can’t fix it?
Not for the repair. If it can’t be fixed, you don’t pay for it.
