The M4 chip encrypts the soldered SSD. If the Mac won’t start, recovery means repairing the board to a working state first.
Some M4 Max configurations hold up to 8TB of internal storage, so a full recovery can take a while simply because of the volume of data. We’ll give you an estimate.
About this model: The M4 MacBook Pro (late 2024) added Thunderbolt 5 on Pro and Max models, a 12MP Center Stage camera and an optional nano-texture display. Most are now out of Apple’s standard one-year warranty, so accidental damage and wear are the main reasons they come to us.

Because the encryption keys live in the Mac’s own security hardware, a standalone copy of the storage would be unreadable. We restore the original board to working order, unlock the volume and transfer your files.

Before you bring it in
Stop using the Mac if a drive is clicking or it keeps restarting, as each attempt can make recovery harder. Make a list of the folders that matter most so we can prioritise them, and have your login password to hand, because the storage is encrypted.

Questions we’re often asked
My Mac might still be under warranty. Should I come to you?
If the fault is a manufacturing defect and your Mac is within Apple’s warranty or AppleCare+, Apple is usually the cheapest route and we’ll tell you so. Accidental damage, spills and anything outside cover is where we can help, often faster.
Can you take the drive out and read it in another computer?
Not on this model. The storage is encrypted with keys held by the Mac’s own security hardware, so it can only be read through the original board. That’s why we repair the board rather than replace it.
Is there a warranty?
Yes, our repairs come with a warranty on the work and parts. Ask us for the terms that apply to your repair.
