Mac Repair London carries out a keyboard replacement on the MacBook Pro 14 & 16-inch M1/M2 Pro & Max from our Central London workshop, for home users and businesses.
The keyboard is part of the top case. Spills are the main cause of failure. We replace the top case assembly or repair the keyboard where practical, including Touch ID.
These models brought back full-height function keys. If only one row of keys fails, it can point to a specific connector or liquid path, which we check before recommending a full top case.
About this model: The redesigned 14 and 16-inch MacBook Pro (A2442, A2485, A2779, A2780) brought back MagSafe, HDMI and the SD card slot, and introduced the mini-LED Liquid Retina XDR display. They’re powerful and generally reliable.
Signs it needs a keyboard replacement
- Keys not working
- Touch ID failing
- Backlight dead
- Sticky keys
How we do it
The keyboard is riveted to the top case. We either fit a complete top case assembly (which includes the keyboard and, on many models, a new battery), or remove the rivets and secure a new keyboard, depending on which is better value for your machine.
We fit UK-layout keyboards as standard and test every key, the backlight and Touch ID (where fitted) before returning the Mac.

Before you bring it in
Try an external keyboard first: if it works, your data and the rest of the Mac are probably fine. Note which keys misbehave and how.

Price
We give you a fixed quote for your exact model after a free initial assessment, before any work starts. All prices are subject to inspection, and nothing is done without your approval.
Questions we’re often asked
What parts do you use?
We tell you before fitting whether a part is an Apple original, a tested part recovered from a donor machine, or a high-quality compatible part, and the price reflects which you choose.
Will my data be safe?
Yes. We don’t wipe your Mac unless you ask. On this model the storage is encrypted and tied to its original board, so we never swap the board without explaining what that would mean for your data.
Do I pay if you can’t fix it?
No. If the repair isn’t possible, you don’t pay for it, and the free initial assessment costs nothing.
