The battery is held with pull tabs and adhesive in the top case. We remove it safely and fit a new one. The 16-inch has a 100Wh battery, so we test under load afterwards.
The 16-inch model’s battery is 100Wh, the largest allowed on flights. Both sizes use pull-tabs, but some cells also have adhesive, so we take care around the trackpad cable.
About this model: The redesigned 14 and 16-inch MacBook Pro (A2442, A2485, A2779, A2780) brought back MagSafe, HDMI and the SD card slot, and introduced the mini-LED Liquid Retina XDR display. They’re powerful and generally reliable.

How we do it
First we confirm the battery really is the problem: cycle count, reported condition, and a check of the charger and charging circuit.
Because the cells are bonded in place, we soften the adhesive and lift them slowly. Forcing a glued battery out is the main way these jobs go wrong.
We then calibrate the new battery, confirm it charges from every port, and dispose of the old cells through a proper battery recycling route.

Questions we’re often asked
How long will the new battery last?
A new battery should give you close to the run time it had when new, and typically lasts several years with normal use. Keeping it away from long periods at 100% charge and high heat helps it age more slowly.
Will my data be safe?
Yes. We don’t wipe your Mac unless you ask. On this model the storage is encrypted and tied to its original board, so we never swap the board without explaining what that would mean for your data.
