If your MacBook Pro 13-inch (2016–2020, Intel) needs a screen replacement, our London technicians can help, usually with a quote on the same day you bring it in.
On 2016 and 2017 models especially, the display’s backlight flex cables wear through from opening and closing the lid. That causes a ‘stage-light’ effect along the bottom of the screen and eventually a dead backlight. Apple treats the cable as part of the display. We can replace the display assembly, or on suitable units repair the cable at board level for a lower cost.
The 2018 and later models have a slightly longer display flex cable, which makes flexgate much less common than on 2016–2017 units.
About this model: The 13-inch MacBook Pro from 2016–2020 comes in a lot of variants: with or without the Touch Bar, two or four Thunderbolt ports, and butterfly keyboards up to 2019 then the scissor Magic Keyboard in 2020. From 2018 onwards they have the T2 security chip, which encrypts the soldered SSD.
Signs it needs a screen replacement
- Stage-light pattern at the bottom of the screen
- Backlight cuts out past a certain lid angle
- Cracked display
- Lines or pixel damage
How we do it
Before quoting for a new screen, we connect an external display and inspect the display cable, so we know whether the fault is in the screen itself, the cable or the logic board.
After fitting, we check for dead pixels, even backlighting, brightness control and the camera before handing it back.

Before you bring it in
If it still works on an external display, back it up first. Bring the charger, and tell us whether the damage came from a drop, pressure or a spill, as it helps us check for hidden damage.

Questions we’re often asked
What parts do you use?
We tell you before fitting whether a part is an Apple original, a tested part recovered from a donor machine, or a high-quality compatible part, and the price reflects which you choose.
Will my data be safe?
Yes. We don’t wipe your Mac unless you ask. On this model the storage is encrypted and tied to its original board, so we never swap the board without explaining what that would mean for your data.
How much does it cost?
See the price section above. We always quote before starting, and if we can’t fix it, you don’t pay for the repair.
