Mac Repair London carries out logic board repair on the iMac 27-inch (2012–2020) from our London workshop, for home users and businesses.
The 27-inch iMac, including the Retina 5K models, mostly suffers from graphics and power faults on its logic board, often linked to heat. We repair at component level rather than replacing the board. On most of these iMacs your files are on a separate drive; the 2020 model is the exception, with an SSD soldered to the board and encrypted by the T2 chip, so repairing the original board is how its data is kept.
Reaching the board means removing the glued display and re-bonding it afterwards, and we allow for that when we quote. We test the internal power supply first, since it’s a separate part, and if the graphics have failed we cover that on our graphics repair page.
About this model: The 27-inch iMac (A1419 and A2115) includes the Retina 5K models, and the 2020 model is the last Intel iMac. It has a RAM door at the back with four slots, so memory upgrades are easy.
Signs it needs logic board repair
- No power
- No picture, lines or artefacts on screen
- Restarts or freezes
- Dead after a power cut or surge
How we do it
Our logic board work is component-level. We inspect the board under a microscope, measure the power rails, use thermal imaging to find shorts, and work from the board schematics to identify the exact failed component. We then replace that component by micro-soldering rather than swapping the whole board.
At a glance
| Years | 2012–2020 |
|---|---|
| Processor | Intel Core i5/i7/i9 |

Before you bring it in
Bring the power cable. Note whether you see any lights, hear the fans or get a start-up chime, and whether there was a power cut or surge before it stopped working.
Which model do you have?
This page covers the iMac 27-inch & Retina 5K (2012–2020) (iMac13,2 to iMac20,2; A1419, A2115). About This Mac in the Apple menu shows the model and year; the A-number is printed on the underside of the stand. Not sure? Bring it in and we’ll identify it for you.
Price
Logic board repair is £450 + VAT on 2018 and later models, and for complex repairs (liquid, lightning or GPU faults) on any model. Non-complex board repairs on earlier models are from £165 + VAT. The initial assessment and advice are free, as long as we don't need to open your Mac. If a technician needs to open it and spend time diagnosing the fault, or you need a report for an insurance claim, it is booked in as a diagnostic at £45 + VAT (£54). All prices are subject to inspection, and nothing is done without your approval.
Questions we’re often asked
Why not just replace the whole board?
A new or refurbished board usually costs far more than a component repair, and replacement boards for older models are increasingly hard to find. On models with a separate drive your files stay on it either way; on the 2020 model the SSD is part of the board, so a replacement would mean losing them.
Do I pay if you can’t fix it?
Not for the repair. If it can’t be fixed, you don’t pay for it.
