Mac Repair London carries out a keyboard replacement on the MacBook Air M1 from our Central London workshop, for home users and businesses.
The M1 Air keyboard is riveted into the top case along with the battery and speakers. We replace the top case assembly or, where practical, the keyboard alone with the rivets reinstated. Most M1 keyboard jobs follow spills.
The M1 Air uses the scissor-switch Magic Keyboard, which is far more reliable than the older butterfly design. That’s why we see keyboard faults on this model almost exclusively after liquid or physical damage.
About this model: The M1 MacBook Air (A2337) is fanless, fast and very popular, which is why we see so many. Its weak spot is the screen: the thin lid cracks easily from pressure, often from earbuds or a pen left on the keyboard when it’s closed.
Signs it needs a keyboard replacement
- Keys not working after a spill
- Sticky keys
- Touch ID not recognised
- Backlight dead
How we do it
The keyboard is riveted to the top case. We either fit a complete top case assembly (which includes the keyboard and, on many models, a new battery), or remove the rivets and secure a new keyboard, depending on which is better value for your machine.
We fit UK-layout keyboards as standard and test every key, the backlight and Touch ID (where fitted) before returning the Mac.

Before you bring it in
Try an external keyboard first: if it works, your data and the rest of the Mac are probably fine. Note which keys misbehave and how.
Which model do you have?
This page covers the MacBook Air M1 (13-inch, 2020) (MacBookAir10,1; A2337). Look under Apple menu > About This Mac, or check the small print on the bottom case for the A-number. Not sure? Bring it in and we’ll identify it for you.
Price
We give you a fixed quote for your exact model after a free initial assessment, before any work starts. All prices are subject to inspection, and nothing is done without your approval.
Questions we’re often asked
What parts do you use?
We tell you before fitting whether a part is an Apple original, a tested part recovered from a donor machine, or a high-quality compatible part, and the price reflects which you choose.
Will my data be safe?
Yes. We don’t wipe your Mac unless you ask. On this model the storage is encrypted and tied to its original board, so we never swap the board without explaining what that would mean for your data.
Do I pay if you can’t fix it?
No. If the repair isn’t possible, you don’t pay for it, and the free initial assessment costs nothing.
