MacBook Air M1 (13-inch, 2020) Battery Replacement

Apple MacBook Air

Need a battery replacement for your MacBook Air M1? We carry out this work in-house at our London workshop, with a fixed quote before we start.

The M1 Air battery is glued down with adhesive pull tabs. We remove it cleanly and fit a new one. Check its health in System Settings > Battery; if it says ‘Service Recommended’ or holds much less charge than when new, it’s due.

Early M1 Airs are now more than four years old, and many show noticeably reduced maximum capacity. Because there’s no fan, a weak battery tends to show up as sudden drops in charge rather than heat.

About this model: The M1 MacBook Air (A2337) is fanless, fast and very popular, which is why we see so many. Its weak spot is the screen: the thin lid cracks easily from pressure, often from earbuds or a pen left on the keyboard when it’s closed.

Signs it needs a battery replacement

  • Service recommended
  • Battery drains quickly
  • Shutdowns at a few percent
  • Swelling

How we do it

First we confirm the battery really is the problem: cycle count, reported condition, and a check of the charger and charging circuit.

We never lever glued cells out with metal tools. The adhesive is released properly first, which keeps the case, cables and new battery safe.

We then calibrate the new battery, confirm it charges from every port, and dispose of the old cells through a proper battery recycling route.

Before you bring it in

Back up your data if you can, note roughly how long a charge lasts now, and bring the charger too, so we can rule it out as the cause.

Questions we’re often asked

How long will the new battery last?

A new battery should give you close to the run time it had when new, and typically lasts several years with normal use. Keeping it away from long periods at 100% charge and high heat helps it age more slowly.

Will my data be safe?

Yes. We don’t wipe your Mac unless you ask. On this model the storage is encrypted and tied to its original board, so we never swap the board without explaining what that would mean for your data.

Is there a warranty?

Yes, our repairs come with a warranty on the work and parts. Ask us for the terms that apply to your repair.
