MacBook Air M1 (13-inch, 2020) Screen Replacement

Apple MacBook Air

Need a screen replacement for your MacBook Air M1? We carry out this work in-house at our London workshop, with a fixed quote before we start.

M1 Air screens crack from pressure, sometimes from nothing more than a pair of earbuds shut in the lid. The fix is a complete display assembly. On recent Apple silicon Macs some features such as True Tone can depend on Apple’s parts pairing, so we explain what to expect before starting. We fit and test the assembly in-house.

The panel in the M1 Air sits in a very thin lid with no protective gap between the keyboard and glass, which is why a grain of grit or an earbud can crack it. A keyboard cover or thick screen protector can make this worse, so we’d suggest removing them after the repair.

About this model: The M1 MacBook Air (A2337) is fanless, fast and very popular, which is why we see so many. Its weak spot is the screen: the thin lid cracks easily from pressure, often from earbuds or a pen left on the keyboard when it’s closed.

Signs it needs a screen replacement

  • Cracks spreading from a corner
  • Black or coloured blotches
  • Lines on the display
  • Backlight working but no image

How we do it

Before quoting for a new screen, we connect an external display and inspect the display cable, so we know whether the fault is in the screen itself, the cable or the logic board.

On Apple silicon models, some display features such as True Tone may depend on Apple’s parts pairing process. We tell you what will and won’t work before you decide.

Every new display is tested for dead pixels, backlight bleed, brightness range and camera function before the Mac goes back to you.

Before you bring it in

Don’t press on a cracked screen to ‘test’ it, as this spreads the damage. If you have AppleCare+, check your cover first; we’ll help you compare.

Price

We give you a fixed quote for your exact model after a free initial assessment, before any work starts. All prices are subject to inspection, and nothing is done without your approval.

Questions we’re often asked

What parts do you use?

We tell you before fitting whether a part is an Apple original, a tested part recovered from a donor machine, or a high-quality compatible part, and the price reflects which you choose.

Will my data be safe?

Yes. We don’t wipe your Mac unless you ask. On this model the storage is encrypted and tied to its original board, so we never swap the board without explaining what that would mean for your data.

Do I pay if you can’t fix it?

No. If the repair isn’t possible, you don’t pay for it, and the free initial assessment costs nothing.
