Liquid in a 15-inch Retina usually damages the keyboard and the power circuits on the logic board. We dismantle the laptop, clean the board, repair corroded parts and replace damaged components such as the keyboard.
About this model: The 15-inch Retina MacBook Pro (A1398) is still a capable quad-core machine. The 2012 and early-2013 models with NVIDIA GT 650M graphics are prone to video faults; later dual-GPU models also get graphics problems.

How we do it
If you’ve just spilled something: switch the Mac off, unplug it, don’t try to turn it on or charge it to ‘check’, and don’t put it in rice. Corrosion keeps spreading while there’s power on the board.
Once it’s apart, the board is cleaned ultrasonically, dried, and inspected under the microscope. Corroded components are replaced, and then we check the battery, keyboard, trackpad and ports individually.
On this model the keyboard is part of the top case, so if it’s damaged we’ll quote for the top case as a separate item so you can decide.

Keep it switched off and unplugged, open the lid into an upside-down V to drain it (for laptops), and bring it in as quickly as you can. Tell us what was spilled: sugary and salty drinks corrode faster than water.

Price
Non-complex board repairs from £165 + VAT; complex repairs (liquid, lightning or GPU faults) from £285 + VAT. The initial assessment and advice are free, as long as we don't need to open your Mac. If a technician needs to open it and spend time diagnosing the fault, or you need a report for an insurance claim, it is booked in as a diagnostic at £45 + VAT (£54). All prices are subject to inspection, and nothing is done without your approval.
Questions we’re often asked
Should I put it in rice?
No. Rice doesn’t remove the minerals and sugar left behind, and meanwhile corrosion carries on. Switch it off and bring it to us as soon as you can.
Does the battery need replacing too?
Not always. On this model the battery is held with adhesive in the top case, so we test it first and only quote for it if it’s worn or damaged.
Do I pay if you can’t fix it?
No. If the repair isn’t possible, you don’t pay for it, and the free initial assessment costs nothing.
