A spill can damage the keyboard, Touch Bar and board together. Switch off and bring it in. We clean, repair and test, and replace the top case if needed.
On the A2338 liquid often reaches the Touch Bar connector first. A Touch Bar that stops working a day or two after a spill is an early warning to get the board checked.
About this model: The 13-inch MacBook Pro with M1 (2020) and M2 (2022) shares model number A2338 and the older Intel-era chassis, complete with Touch Bar and a fan. It’s reliable, but the screen is as vulnerable to pressure cracks as the M1 Air, and the Touch Bar can fail after spills.

How we do it
The first hour after a spill decides a lot. Turn the Mac off, disconnect the charger and don’t switch it back on to see if it survived.
We fully dismantle it, put the logic board through an ultrasonic bath to lift residue from beneath the chips, and then trace and replace every corroded part. The keyboard, trackpad, battery and ports are tested one by one because spills rarely stop at the board.
On this model the keyboard is part of the top case, so if it’s damaged we’ll quote for the top case as a separate item so you can decide.

Before you bring it in
Even if it seems fine after drying, bring it in: corrosion can take days or weeks to cause a failure. Let us know when the spill happened and what the drink was.

Price
Non-complex board repairs from £165 + VAT; complex repairs (liquid, lightning or GPU faults) from £285 + VAT. The initial assessment and advice are free, as long as we don't need to open your Mac. If a technician needs to open it and spend time diagnosing the fault, or you need a report for an insurance claim, it is booked in as a diagnostic at £45 + VAT (£54). All prices are subject to inspection, and nothing is done without your approval.
Questions we’re often asked
Should I put it in rice?
No. Rice doesn’t remove the minerals and sugar left behind, and meanwhile corrosion carries on. Switch it off and bring it to us as soon as you can.
Does the battery need replacing too?
Not always. On this model the battery is held with adhesive in the top case, so we test it first and only quote for it if it’s worn or damaged.
