MacBook Air 15-inch M2 & M3 (2023–2024) Data Recovery

Apple MacBook Air

Need data recovery for your MacBook Air 15-inch M2 & M3? We carry out this work in-house at our London workshop, with a fixed quote before we start.

As on every Apple silicon Mac, the SSD is soldered and encrypted, so data can only be recovered by repairing the original board. We handle that in-house.

The 15-inch Air is often bought as a main home computer, so it frequently holds large Photos libraries. If iCloud Photos was on, much of that may already be online, which we’ll check with you first.

About this model: The 15-inch MacBook Air (A2941 with M2, A3114 with M3) gives you a big screen in a thin, fanless body. The large, thin lid is its vulnerability: screens crack from drops and pressure.

Signs it needs data recovery

  • Dead laptop
  • Liquid spill
  • Won’t boot
  • Board fault

How we do it

There’s no drive to remove: the storage is encrypted and tied to this Mac’s own chip. So we repair the logic board or power supply to the point where the Mac starts, then copy your data off.

Whether it’s family photos, accounts, a thesis or a year of client projects, we list what we’ve recovered so you can check it before it’s copied to your new drive.

At a glance

Years 2023–2024
Processor Apple M2 or M3, fanless
Storage Soldered to the logic board
Memory Unified memory inside the chip package (not upgradeable)
Battery Held with adhesive
Power / charging MagSafe 3 plus two Thunderbolt ports

Before you bring it in

Stop using the Mac if a drive is clicking or it keeps restarting, as each attempt can make recovery harder. Make a list of the folders that matter most so we can prioritise them, and have your login password to hand, because the storage is encrypted.

Questions we’re often asked

Can you take the drive out and read it in another computer?

Not on this model. The storage is encrypted with keys held by the Mac’s own security hardware, so it can only be read through the original board. That’s why we repair the board rather than replace it.

Is there a warranty?

Yes, our repairs come with a warranty on the work and parts. Ask us for the terms that apply to your repair.
