MacBook Air 13-inch (2010–2017) Liquid Damage Repair

Apple MacBook Air

Need liquid damage repair for your MacBook Air 13-inch? We carry out this work in-house at our London workshop, with a fixed quote before we start.

Liquid on a 13-inch Air runs through the keyboard onto the logic board, where the power and charging circuits sit. Turn it off, don’t charge it, and bring it in. We strip it down, clean the board ultrasonically, repair corroded components and then test the keyboard, trackpad and battery.

About this model: The 13-inch MacBook Air (A1369 and A1466) ran for seven years with the same wedge design, and the 2017 model was sold until 2019, so there are a lot of them. Memory is soldered, but the SSD is a removable blade, the battery is screwed in, and the keyboard can be replaced separately from the top case.

Signs it needs liquid damage repair

  • Won’t power on after a spill
  • Keyboard partly working
  • Battery not charging
  • Random shutdowns

How we do it

Time matters with a spill. Power it down, unplug it and resist the urge to test it: every time current flows through a wet board, corrosion speeds up.

In the workshop we take the machine apart, clean the logic board ultrasonically to remove residue from under chips, then repair or replace any corroded components. We test the keyboard, trackpad, battery and ports separately, as these are often damaged too.

Before you bring it in

Don’t use a hairdryer, which can push liquid further in and warp parts. Leave it off, unplugged and upside down, and tell us what the liquid was and roughly how much.

Price

Non-complex board repairs from £165 + VAT; complex repairs (liquid, lightning or GPU faults) from £285 + VAT. The initial assessment and advice are free, as long as we don't need to open your Mac. If a technician needs to open it and spend time diagnosing the fault, or you need a report for an insurance claim, it is booked in as a diagnostic at £45 + VAT (£54). All prices are subject to inspection, and nothing is done without your approval.

Questions we’re often asked

Should I put it in rice?

No. Rice doesn’t remove the minerals and sugar left behind, and meanwhile corrosion carries on. Switch it off and bring it to us as soon as you can.

Is there a warranty?

Yes, our repairs come with a warranty on the work and parts. Ask us for the terms that apply to your repair.
