MacBook Air 13-inch (2010–2017) Keyboard Replacement

Apple MacBook Air

If your MacBook Air 13-inch needs a keyboard replacement, our London technicians can help, usually with a quote on the same day you bring it in.

Unlike later Airs, this keyboard is screwed into the top case with many small screws and can be replaced on its own. That keeps the cost well below a top case replacement. We fit UK-layout keyboards as standard.

About this model: The 13-inch MacBook Air (A1369 and A1466) ran for seven years with the same wedge design, and the 2017 model was sold until 2019, so there are a lot of them. Memory is soldered, but the SSD is a removable blade, the battery is screwed in, and the keyboard can be replaced separately from the top case.

Signs it needs a keyboard replacement

  • Spill damage
  • Keys missing
  • Keys repeating or dead
  • Backlight fault

How we do it

The keyboard is fixed to the top case with many small screws and a separate backlight sheet. We remove the logic board and components above it, swap the keyboard and rebuild. It takes time, but it saves the cost of a whole top case.

We fit UK-layout keyboards as standard and test every key, the backlight and Touch ID (where fitted) before returning the Mac.

Before you bring it in

Avoid prising off keycaps yourself, as the clips break easily. A quick note of which keys stick or repeat is all we need.

Questions we’re often asked

What parts do you use?

We tell you before fitting whether a part is an Apple original, a tested part recovered from a donor machine, or a high-quality compatible part, and the price reflects which you choose.

Can you fit an SSD while it’s here?

Yes. This model uses a removable apple ssd blade, and swapping to an SSD at the same time is often the best-value upgrade you can make.

Is there a warranty?

Yes, our repairs come with a warranty on the work and parts. Ask us for the terms that apply to your repair.
