iMac Pro 27-inch (2017) Data Recovery

Apple iMac

Mac Repair London carries out data recovery on the iMac Pro from our Central London workshop, for home users and businesses.

The iMac Pro’s flash storage is encrypted by the T2 chip, so it can only be read through the original logic board. When an iMac Pro won’t start, we repair the board or power supply so we can access and copy your data.

The iMac Pro was commonly used for video editing, so its internal storage often holds large project files. Recovery can take some time for this reason.

About this model: The iMac Pro (A1862) is a Xeon workstation in a space grey iMac body, with Radeon Pro Vega graphics and the T2 chip. It was sold until 2021 and many are still used in creative studios.

Signs it needs data recovery

  • iMac Pro won’t start
  • T2 boot failure
  • Power fault
  • Accidental deletion

How we do it

Recovery here is really a board repair with a different goal. We only need the Mac working long enough to unlock the encrypted storage and copy everything to a new drive.

We recover documents, photos, video, Mail, Photos and iTunes/Music libraries, and project files from apps like Final Cut Pro, Logic and Adobe Creative Cloud.

At a glance

Before you bring it in

Don’t run disk repair tools or reinstall macOS, as both can overwrite what we’re trying to save. Note which files matter most and bring your login password, which the encrypted storage needs.

Which model do you have?

This page covers the iMac Pro 27-inch (2017) (iMacPro1,1; A1862). Open the Apple menu and choose About This Mac. The model number is also printed under the stand or on the base. Not sure? Bring it in and we’ll identify it for you.

Price

Logical data recovery from £150 + VAT; physical recovery from damaged drives from £350 + VAT. All prices are subject to inspection, and nothing is done without your approval.

Questions we’re often asked

Can you take the drive out and read it in another computer?

Not on this model. The storage is encrypted with keys held by the Mac’s own security hardware, so it can only be read through the original board. That’s why we repair the board rather than replace it.

How much does it cost?

See the price section above. We always quote before starting, and if we can’t fix it, you don’t pay for the repair.
