The white iBook G4 (2003–2006) was Apple’s education and home laptop, in 12 and 14-inch sizes. Many are kept for their files or for older software, and some owners simply love them.
The best-known fault is the graphics chip coming loose from the logic board, which causes a blank or garbled screen. Hard drives of this age are also near the end of their life.
What we do
- SSD upgrade – replace the old IDE hard drive with solid-state storage
- Screen repair – LCD, backlight inverter and display cable faults
- Logic board repair – including the graphics chip fault
- Data recovery – photos, documents and mail from old drives
Parts for a 20-year-old laptop
New iBook parts haven’t been made for many years. We use genuine Apple parts recovered from donor machines and test each one before fitting, so you know what you’re getting. Where a part simply isn’t available, we’ll tell you before any work starts.
Questions we’re often asked
Is it worth repairing an iBook G4?
For getting files back, usually yes. As an everyday computer it’s limited by its age, so we’ll help you decide what makes sense.
