Need a screen replacement for your iBook G4? We carry out this work in-house at our London workshop, with a fixed quote before we start.
iBook G4 screens fail in two ways: the LCD panel itself gets cracked or develops lines, or the backlight goes dark because the inverter board or the video cable through the hinge has worn. We test which one it is with an external display and a torch test before quoting, so you only pay for the part that has failed. Original panels are scarce, so we source tested used or refurbished parts and tell you which before fitting.
Signs it needs a screen replacement
- Dim or black screen where the image is faintly visible with a torch
- Flickering when the lid is moved
- Vertical lines or a white screen
- Cracked LCD after a drop
How we do it
Before quoting for a new screen, we connect an external display and inspect the display cable, so we know whether the fault is in the screen itself, the cable or the logic board.
Every new display is tested for dead pixels, backlight bleed, brightness range and camera function before the Mac goes back to you.

Before you bring it in
Don’t press on a cracked screen to ‘test’ it, as this spreads the damage. If you have AppleCare+, check your cover first; we’ll help you compare.
Which model do you have?
This page covers the iBook G4 (12-inch & 14-inch, 2003–2006) (PowerBook6,3 / 6,5 / 6,7; A1054, A1055, A1133, A1134). Apple System Profiler (Apple menu > About This Mac > More Info) shows the exact machine model. Not sure? Bring it in and we’ll identify it for you.
Price
We give you a fixed quote for your exact model after a free initial assessment, before any work starts. All prices are subject to inspection, and nothing is done without your approval.
Questions we’re often asked
What parts do you use?
We tell you before fitting whether a part is an Apple original, a tested part recovered from a donor machine, or a high-quality compatible part, and the price reflects which you choose.
Can you fit an SSD while it’s here?
Yes. This model uses a 2.5-inch ide (parallel ata) hard drive, and swapping to an SSD at the same time is often the best-value upgrade you can make.
Do I pay if you can’t fix it?
No. If the repair isn’t possible, you don’t pay for it, and the free initial assessment costs nothing.
