iMac Memory Upgrade

iMac memory upgrade

How easy an iMac memory upgrade is depends on the model. On the 27-inch iMac it takes minutes through a door on the back; on the 21.5-inch model the display has to come off, and on some configurations the memory is soldered.

What your iMac can take

  • iMac 27-inch (2012–2020): four slots behind a door on the back, up to 32–128GB depending on the year
  • iMac 21.5-inch (2012–2019): socketed on some models (behind the display), soldered on others; we check yours first
  • 2007–2011 iMacs: two or four slots under a panel at the bottom
  • iMac Pro: four slots, but only reachable by removing the display
  • 24-inch Apple silicon iMacs: not upgradeable

Choose your model

Slow iMac? An SSD upgrade usually helps even more than memory.

Questions we’re often asked

Can I buy memory and have you fit it?

Yes, but we’ll check it matches your model first. Mismatched memory is a common cause of start-up beeps and crashes.
