MacBook Pro 14 & 16-inch M3 family (2023) Liquid Damage Repair

Apple MacBook Pro

If your MacBook Pro M3, M3 Pro & M3 Max needs liquid damage repair, our London technicians can help. Switch it off, don’t charge it, and bring it in as soon as you can.

Liquid gets in through the keyboard and onto the logic board, where it starts corroding the power and charging circuits. We open it, clean the board ultrasonically, replace corroded parts and test the keyboard, trackpad and ports.

On the M3 MacBook Pro, the processor, memory and storage are all on that one board, so repairing it is also how your data is kept.

About this model: The M3 MacBook Pro family (late 2023) includes the entry 14-inch M3 (A2918), the 14-inch M3 Pro/Max (A2992) and the 16-inch M3 Pro/Max (A2991). The space black finish debuted here.

Signs it needs liquid damage repair

  • Won’t power on
  • Keys not working
  • Trackpad unresponsive
  • Not charging on MagSafe or USB-C

How we do it

If you’ve just spilled something: switch the Mac off, unplug it, don’t try to turn it on or charge it to ‘check’, and don’t put it in rice. Corrosion keeps spreading while there’s power on the board.

Once it’s apart, the board is cleaned ultrasonically, dried, and inspected under the microscope. Corroded components are replaced, and then we check the battery, keyboard, trackpad and ports individually.

On this model the keyboard is riveted into the top case, so if it’s damaged we’ll quote for the top case as a separate item so you can decide.

At a glance

Years 2023
Processor Apple M3, M3 Pro or M3 Max
Storage Soldered to the logic board
Memory Unified memory inside the chip package (not upgradeable)
Battery Held with adhesive
Power / charging MagSafe 3, Thunderbolt, HDMI, SDXC

Before you bring it in

Keep it switched off and unplugged, open the lid into an upside-down V to drain it, and bring it in as quickly as you can. Tell us what was spilled: sugary and salty drinks corrode faster than water.

Price

Liquid damage repair to the logic board is £450 + VAT on this model. If other parts were damaged too, we quote for them separately. The initial assessment and advice are free, as long as we don't need to open your Mac. If a technician needs to open it and spend time diagnosing the fault, or you need a report for an insurance claim, it is booked in as a diagnostic at £45 + VAT (£54). All prices are subject to inspection, and nothing is done without your approval.

Questions we’re often asked

Should I put it in rice?

No. Rice doesn’t remove the minerals and sugar left behind, and meanwhile corrosion carries on. Switch it off and bring it to us as soon as you can.

Will my data be safe?

Yes. We don’t wipe your Mac unless you ask. On this model the storage is tied to its original board, so we never swap the board without explaining what that would mean for your data.

Do I pay if you can’t fix it?

Not for the repair. If it can’t be fixed, you don’t pay for it.
