Need an SSD upgrade for your MacBook Air 11-inch? We carry out this work in-house at our London workshop, with a fixed quote before we start.
The 11-inch Air uses a proprietary SSD blade rather than a 2.5-inch drive. The 2010–2011 models use one blade type, the 2012 another, and the 2013–2015 models use a PCIe blade that can also accept modern NVMe drives through an adapter once the Mac is on macOS High Sierra or later. We confirm your exact model and firmware first, then fit the right drive and move your data.
About this model: The 11-inch MacBook Air is small, light and still popular as a travel or school machine. Its memory is soldered, but its SSD is a removable blade and its battery is screwed in rather than glued, so the most useful repairs remain very affordable.
Signs it needs an SSD upgrade
- 64GB or 128GB storage always full
- ‘Your disk is almost full’ warnings
- Slow or failing original SSD
- Folder with question mark at start-up
How we do it
Apple’s blade SSDs use proprietary connectors that changed between generations, so we match the drive (or adapter) to your exact model identifier. For NVMe drives we first confirm the Mac’s firmware is current, because older firmware can’t boot from NVMe.
Once fitted, we either restore your existing system or install the newest macOS your model supports, then run a full read/write test and check the drive’s health reporting before handing it back.
If you’d rather move to a new Mac instead, our data migration service (from £79 + VAT) transfers everything across.

Before you bring it in
Tell us how much data is on it now and how much you expect to add, so we can recommend a sensible capacity. Bring your Apple ID and login passwords; we need them to check everything works after the upgrade.

Questions we’re often asked
Will I lose my files?
No. We clone or back up your data before any upgrade and check everything is in place afterwards.
Is it worth upgrading this model?
For most owners it is. An upgrade costs a fraction of a new Mac, and we’ll say plainly if your particular machine has other faults that make it a poor investment.
How much does it cost?
See the price section above. We always quote before starting, and if we can’t fix it, you don’t pay for the repair.
