Unlike later MacBook Pros, the hard drive in the 2006–2008 models is under the top case, so the keyboard and palm rest have to come off. We fit a 2.5-inch SATA SSD and clone your system. The 2006 Core Duo models run the SATA bus at 1.5Gb/s, the 2007–2008 at up to 3Gb/s, so gains vary, but every model feels far quicker than it does on its original drive.
About this model: The original aluminium MacBook Pro (before the unibody design) covers the Core Duo and Core 2 Duo models from 2006 to 2008. The big known fault is the NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics chip used in the 2007–2008 models, which fails and causes no video or a garbled screen.

How we do it
We use quality SATA SSDs from established brands, fitted with a bracket or adapter where the bay was designed for a larger drive. If your old drive still reads, we clone it so your apps, files and settings carry across unchanged.
Once fitted, we either restore your existing system or install the newest macOS your model supports, then run a full read/write test and check the drive’s health reporting before handing it back.
If you’d rather move to a new Mac instead, our data migration service (from £79 + VAT) transfers everything across.
