If your MacBook Air Retina (2018–2020, Intel) needs a battery replacement, our London technicians can help, usually with a quote on the same day you bring it in.
The battery is glued into the top case. We remove it safely and fit a new one. The Retina Air’s USB-C ports are on a separate small board, so if it won’t charge we check those before assuming the battery is at fault.
The Retina Air’s battery is glued in several sections. We pay particular attention near the trackpad cable, which runs close to the cells.
About this model: The Retina MacBook Air from 2018–2020 (A1932 and A2179) has the T2 chip, soldered storage and memory, and a battery glued in place. The 2018–2019 A1932 has the butterfly keyboard; the 2020 A2179 has the more reliable scissor keyboard.
Signs it needs a battery replacement
- Short battery life
- Not charging
- Swelling
- Service recommended
How we do it
We start by reading your Mac’s battery cycle count and health, and testing the charger and port. A charging fault can mimic a worn battery, and we’d rather not sell you a part you don’t need.
Adhesive holds the pack to the case, so patience matters more than speed. We protect the trackpad and speaker cables while the old cells come out.
Finally we check the new battery reports a healthy condition and a low cycle count, test charging, and recycle the old pack responsibly.

Questions we’re often asked
How long will the new battery last?
A new battery should give you close to the run time it had when new, and typically lasts several years with normal use. Keeping it away from long periods at 100% charge and high heat helps it age more slowly.
Do you need to erase my Mac?
No. Your files stay where they are. We only need your password if you’d like us to test macOS after the repair, and we’ll ask before we log in.
Do I pay if you can’t fix it?
No. If the repair isn’t possible, you don’t pay for it, and the free initial assessment costs nothing.
