Mac Repair London carries out power supply repair on the Power Mac G5 from our Central London workshop, for home users and businesses.
Power supply failure is the most common reason a Power Mac G5 stops working. Symptoms range from nothing at all to a start-up chime followed by a shutdown, or fans roaring. We test the supply under load, and where a replacement unit isn’t available we repair the supply at component level. We also check the processor board afterwards, because a failing supply can take other parts with it.
About this model: The Power Mac G5 is a big aluminium tower that still does real work for many studios, often running older versions of Pro Tools, Logic or Quark. The two faults we see most are power supply failure (the machine does nothing, or clicks off) and coolant leaks on the liquid-cooled Dual 2.5GHz, Dual 2.7GHz and Quad models.

How we do it
We test the power supply under real load (a multimeter check without load can pass a failing unit), then replace or repair it at component level where a new unit isn’t available.
Because a failing supply can damage other parts on its way out, we also test the logic board and drive afterwards.

We give you a fixed quote after a free initial assessment, before any work starts. The initial assessment and advice are free, as long as we don't need to open your Mac. If a technician needs to open it and spend time diagnosing the fault, or you need a report for an insurance claim, it is booked in as a diagnostic at £45 + VAT (£54). All prices are subject to inspection, and nothing is done without your approval.

Do I pay if you can’t fix it?
