Mac mini M1, M2 & M2 Pro (2020–2023) Logic Board Repair

Apple Mac mini

Mac Repair London carries out logic board repair on the Mac mini M1 & M2 from our London workshop, for home users and businesses.

On the M1 and M2 Mac mini, the memory and storage are part of the logic board, and the storage is encrypted by the chip. If the board fails, the only way to keep your data is to repair it.

These minis are very reliable. When one dies, it’s usually the internal power supply or a board fault after a power surge. We test the power supply first, since it’s a separate part, then repair the board at component level if needed.

About this model: The M1 and M2 Mac mini (A2348, A2686, A2816) use the classic silver enclosure with an internal power supply. They’re very reliable.

  • No power
  • Dead after a power cut or surge
  • Power light but no picture
  • Ports not working

How we do it

Our logic board work is component-level. We inspect the board under a microscope, measure the power rails, use thermal imaging to find shorts, and work from the board schematics to identify the exact failed component. We then replace that component by micro-soldering rather than swapping the whole board.

At a glance

Before you bring it in

Bring the power cable. Note whether you see any lights, hear the fans or get a start-up chime, and whether there was a power cut or surge before it stopped working. Remember that a replacement board would mean losing the data on this model.

Questions we’re often asked

Why not just replace the whole board?

A new or refurbished board usually costs far more than a component repair, and on this model it would also mean losing the data stored on the original board.

Do I pay if you can’t fix it?

Not for the repair. If it can’t be fixed, you don’t pay for it.
