Mac Repair London carries out logic board repair on the iMac 21.5-inch (2012–2019) from our London workshop, for home users and businesses.
The slim 21.5-inch iMac is one of the most common Macs we see. When the board fails, the usual causes are power faults, heat and age. Most of these iMacs have a removable drive, so your files can often be copied off even before the board is fixed.
Reaching the board means cutting the display free and re-bonding it afterwards, and we allow for that when we quote. We test the internal power supply first, because it’s a separate part and a simpler repair.
About this model: The slim 21.5-inch iMac (A1418) sold from 2012 to 2019 and is very common in homes and offices. Many were sold with slow 5400rpm hard drives or small Fusion Drives, which is why they feel so sluggish today.
Signs it needs logic board repair
- No power
- Chimes but no picture
- Restarts or freezes
- Dead after a power cut or surge
How we do it
Our logic board work is component-level. We inspect the board under a microscope, measure the power rails, use thermal imaging to find shorts, and work from the board schematics to identify the exact failed component. We then replace that component by micro-soldering rather than swapping the whole board.
At a glance
| Years | 2012–2019 |
|---|---|
| Processor | Intel Core i3/i5/i7 |
| Storage | Standard SATA drive |
| Memory | Socketed on some configurations, soldered on others |
| Power / charging | Internal mains power supply |
Before you bring it in
Bring the power cable. Note whether you see any lights, hear the fans or get a start-up chime, and whether there was a power cut or surge before it stopped working.
Which model do you have?
This page covers the iMac 21.5-inch slim (2012–2019) (iMac13,1 to iMac19,2; A1418). Open the Apple menu and choose About This Mac. The model number is also printed under the stand or on the base. Not sure? Bring it in and we’ll identify it for you.
Price
Logic board repair is £450 + VAT on 2018 and later models, and for complex repairs (liquid, lightning or GPU faults) on any model. Non-complex board repairs on earlier models are from £165 + VAT. The initial assessment and advice are free, as long as we don't need to open your Mac. If a technician needs to open it and spend time diagnosing the fault, or you need a report for an insurance claim, it is booked in as a diagnostic at £45 + VAT (£54). All prices are subject to inspection, and nothing is done without your approval.
Questions we’re often asked
Why not just replace the whole board?
A new or refurbished board usually costs far more than a component repair, and replacement boards for older models are increasingly hard to find. Your files stay on the drive either way.
Do I pay if you can’t fix it?
Not for the repair. If it can’t be fixed, you don’t pay for it.
