Mac Pro tower ‘cheese grater’ (2006–2012) Graphics (GPU) Repair

Apple Mac Pro

If your Mac Pro tower (2006–2012) needs graphics (GPU) repair, our London technicians can help, usually with a quote on the same day you bring it in.

The Mac Pro’s graphics card is a standard PCIe card, so it can be replaced or upgraded. For macOS Mojave and later, a Metal-capable GPU is required. We supply compatible cards, handle the boot-screen limitations of non-flashed cards and test under load.

About this model: The original Mac Pro tower (A1186 and A1289) is a modular workstation with four drive sleds, eight RAM slots on most models and full-size PCIe slots. It’s still used in studios for audio, video and legacy software.

How we do it

On this Mac the graphics hardware sits on a separate card or module, so we test it in isolation, repair or replace it, and clean the cooling path so the new card doesn’t overheat.

Before anything is done, we explain the cost against the value of your machine, and if a repair doesn’t make sense, we’ll still help you get your data off.

Before you bring it in

If it only fails when warm, mention it: heat-related graphics faults behave differently from a completely dead chip.
