iMac 21.5-inch slim (2012–2019) Screen Replacement

Apple iMac

Mac Repair London carries out a screen replacement on the iMac 21.5-inch (2012–2019) from our Central London workshop, for home users and businesses.

The glass and LCD are bonded together on the slim iMac, so a crack means replacing the full panel. We cut the old one off, fit the new panel and re-bond with new adhesive strips.

About this model: The slim 21.5-inch iMac (A1418) sold from 2012 to 2019 and is very common in homes and offices. Many were sold with slow 5400rpm hard drives or small Fusion Drives, which is why they feel so sluggish today.

Signs it needs a screen replacement

  • Cracked glass
  • Lines on screen
  • Dark areas
  • Backlight failure

How we do it

The display on this iMac is bonded to the chassis with adhesive. We cut it away with the proper tool, fit the new panel, clean the frame and re-bond it with new adhesive strips so it sits flush and seals out dust.

Before we hand it back, we test the new screen on a full range of colours and brightness levels and check the camera and sensors.

Before you bring it in

Take a photo of the damage while the Mac is on, especially if the fault comes and goes. It helps us tell a panel fault from a cable or graphics fault.

Questions we’re often asked

What parts do you use?

We tell you before fitting whether a part is an Apple original, a tested part recovered from a donor machine, or a high-quality compatible part, and the price reflects which you choose.

Can you fit an SSD while it’s here?

Yes. This model uses a standard sata drive, and swapping to an SSD at the same time is often the best-value upgrade you can make.

Is there a warranty?

Yes, our repairs come with a warranty on the work and parts. Ask us for the terms that apply to your repair.
