Mac Repair London offers repairs for the iMac Aluminium (2007–2009) in Central London, from simple part swaps to component-level logic board work.
The first aluminium iMacs (A1224 20-inch and A1225 24-inch) introduced the glass-and-aluminium look. They’re now well over 15 years old, and the usual faults are hard drive failure, graphics problems on some 24-inch configurations, and power supply faults. The glass is held by screws on a bezel, so getting inside is more involved than on the later magnetic-glass models.
Common faults we fix
- Hard drive failure
- Graphics faults on some 24-inch models
- Power supply failure
- Vertical lines on screen
- Loud fans

Back up your files if it still starts, bring the charger or power cable, and write down what happened just before the fault appeared. The more detail you give, the quicker the diagnosis.
Which model do you have?
This page covers the iMac Aluminium 20 & 24-inch (2007–2009) (iMac7,1 / 8,1 / 9,1; A1224, A1225). Open the Apple menu and choose About This Mac. The model number is also printed under the stand or on the base. Not sure? Bring it in and we’ll identify it for you.
Price
We give you a fixed quote after a free initial assessment, before any work starts. The initial assessment and advice are free, as long as we don't need to open your Mac. If a technician needs to open it and spend time diagnosing the fault, or you need a report for an insurance claim, it is booked in as a diagnostic at £45 + VAT (£54). All prices are subject to inspection, and nothing is done without your approval.
Questions we’re often asked
Is a Mac this age worth repairing?
It depends what you use it for. For recovering data, running legacy software or keeping a working studio setup, often yes. We give you the cost upfront and an honest view on whether it makes sense.
Can you fit an SSD while it’s here?
Yes. This model uses a standard sata drive, and swapping to an SSD at the same time is often the best-value upgrade you can make.
Do I pay if you can’t fix it?
No. If the repair isn’t possible, you don’t pay for it, and the free initial assessment costs nothing.
